You’d better look/speak/be Japanese to get into this club. They’re strict at the door with people of non-native heritage. Though the official reason is that foreigners present a drug problem, it might have something to do with the sleazy foreigners that try to pick up locals at other nightlife institutions. In any case, if you bring a Japanese friend it’s all smiles, and once you get inside, you’ll see that the people here are here for the music – they all face the DJ and dance. For good reason, Club Harlem started the hip hop craze in Japan, and many of Tokyo’s most famous DJs perform here.
