You can put your camera away now, tourista. Or go pose with the locals engaging in kosupure costume roleplay. In Tokyo’s orderly and buckled-down culture, people would go crazy without finding an outlet for their individuality. So, of course, many teenagers find 50 of their closest friends and go nuts… dressing up in elaborate costumes while being surrounded by all sorts of old otaku men and bemused French-speaking tourists with huge cameras playing paparazzi. Here at Yoyogi Park you’ll see the fashion tribes hang out on Saturday afternoons. Over in Akihabara you’ll find the epicenter of otaku and cosplay culture, especially on Sunday afternoons when all the cosplayers and otaku are out, though less so than in the past. Be sure to check out a maid cafe nearby!
