kabukicho

Shinjuku’s Kabuki-cho is like New York’s Times Square in the 70s – seedy, covered in neon lights, and strip joints on every corner with gangsters and drunkards stumbiling around. This is still Japan though; as such, the streets are clean, the gangsters and strippers are polite, and the drunkards are actually professional businessmen that are expected to end ALL of their workdays with a pint or ten with the boss. Don’t be shy, this Japanese red light district is safer than the typical American schoolyard. Though most clubs don’t welcome foreigner gaijin, Kabuki-cho is great for cheap, quality food and drink; love hotels; and the unintentional comedy resulting from spying a host or hostess getting dragged on a date by an overweight but dressed-to-impress client.
