sakuratei
Okonomiyaki are savory pancakes of seafood, meat, and cabbage that you prepare yourself on a metal griddle, kind of like a seafood pizza from Osaka. Sakura-tei specializes in these delicacies, but if you think all you get is a meal here, you’d be wrong – the space is also intended to be a venue for artists’ expression, and the murals on the walls are constantly repainted. If you are artistically inclined, they welcome applications from anyone wishing to participate – you can rent out mural space seperately if you wish to host an exhibition. Tokyoites have their own version of okonomiyaki called monjayaki – ask for an English speaking server to teach you how to grill both types up – that way you won’t inadvertently redecorate the murals with some seafood that you’re supposed to be eating.
