yasukunishrine
Yasukuni Jinja is a shrine dedicated to those that have died fighting on behalf of the Emperor of Japan. It is known most controversially for its clandestine enshrinment of 14 executed WWII Class-A war criminals. However, it is one of Tokyo’s prettiest and most important shrines, meant to give peace to those enshrined within – historically the only place to which the Emperor of Japan bowed, until Emperor Hirohito refused to visit the shrine due to the Class-A enshrined within.
